Contract
JCT Design & Build 2016 with amendments
Works comprised of the refurbishment of a number of wards, offices, stores, gymnasium, utility rooms and bathrooms at Newton Community Hospital in Newton-le-Willows, near Warrington.
Works were undertaken whilst the hospital remained open and fully functional. Great care was taken to ensure continuity of services for the operational hospital areas throughout the contract. Hygienic temporary partitions were installed to safely segregate the work areas from the remaining hospital. The Intium Site manager briefed the senior practice manager on a daily basis of forthcoming operations on site which were carefully coordinated with the hospitals own requirements.
The works were undertaken in three phases; phase one being the North West wing ground floor comprising the conversion of the existing day room and bathroom into a new 3-bed ward and ensuite. Phase two included the North West wing first floor consulting rooms converted into a new gym and physiotherapy ward. Phase three included the South West wing ground floor conversion of the existing gym, physio and nurse base areas into a new 6-bed and 1-bed bariatric ward with associated nurse base and store rooms.
Refurbishment works included new walls, partitions, suspended ceilings, IPS panels and washrooms, new hoisting facilities, curtain tracks and curtains, window blinds, new vinyl flooring, redecoration, new timber door-sets and new sanitary ware. MEP works included new medical gases, hot and cold water installations, new heating, air conditioning, new ventilation installations, lighting, power, fire alarm and nurse call systems.
A further phase of works is currently being negotiated under a new contract.
