Intium Construction Ltd were appointed in July 2025 to convert an existing, redundant former Homebase retail unit into a new Home Bargains retail store, at Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire. Works comprised of the internal strip out of mezzanine 1st floors, staircases, lifts and removal of external roof, wall cladding and shop-front aluminium screens. The new works included new Kingspan KS1000 roof and wall cladding, Senior Aluminium shop-fronts, screens, sliding entrance doors and curtain walling, new steel security doors, new incoming primary electric and water supplies, 5.00m high security fencing and gates to the delivery and storage yard, new external lighting and CCTV, disabled access ramps and handrailing. The existing car park was planed off and a new wearing course installed together with line marking to the entire car park. The existing planting, which had become overgrown, was substantially cut back, hedgerows trimmed and a new planting scheme installed. Below ground drainage was jetted, cleaned and replaced, where necessary, to provide a fully functioning and serviced installation. Early access was accommodated for client fit-out contractors, notably Terrazzo flooring and screed installation. Works were completed on time and below the contract sum, within the 28-week contract period. The new store is scheduled to open in June 2026.
