BRICKLAYING STUDENTS GAIN VALUABLE INSIGHT THROUGH LIVE SITE VISITS
Stoke College Visit: 18th March 2026
Two groups of bricklaying students from Stoke-on-Trent College attended separate site visits, providing them with a valuable opportunity to experience a live construction environment. During each visit, the students were given an overview of Intium, including the scope of work the company undertakes and its role within the construction industry. This was followed by an insight into the current live project, helping learners understand how different elements of a build come together in practice.
To enhance their understanding, the students were shown drone footage of both a completed project and the current site, allowing them to visualise project progression from start to finish. As they are currently studying steel drawings, they also reviewed these on site and took copies away to and review in more detail, supporting their understanding of how designs are interpreted on site.
Site managers delivered a comprehensive health and safety briefing, along with a visitor-specific induction, clearly explaining how this differs from the inductions required for on-site workers.
Although brickwork was not a feature of this particular project, the visits still proved highly beneficial. Students gained exposure to the day-to-day operations of a live construction site and developed a broader awareness of other trades and processes involved. In addition, Intium set the students a task sheet to complete, based on the live project they visited.
“Extremely positive, feedback received from college lecturer highlighting the value of getting learners out of the classroom and into a real-world setting. Giving students a clearer understanding of site practices and reinforcing their learning in a practical context.”
