Works comprised of the demolition and removal of an existing loading bay canopy, at a busy manufacturing plant near Chester and a replacement, much larger canopy, spanning 90 m long and 11m wide.
Works were undertaken whilst the plant remained operational, so loading and unloading of HGV’s continued whilst the new build construction proceeded. Great care and coordination was taken with the clients team to ensure that all works were undertaken safely, whilst vehicle movements remained operational.
The works included the demolition of the existing steel and cladding canopy structure, in sections, the saw cutting of the concrete yard to facilitate CFA piled foundations, reinforced concrete ground beams and pile caps to support a structural steel portal frame carrying the canopy. The canopy was clad in Kingspan metal profile cladding to the roof and cheek walls. The steel frame was protected by a lightning protection system. The reinforced concrete yard slab was reinstated in sections to enable continuous use of the area for the client operations. Finally two masonry planters were constructed and replanted to match the existing and steel mesh fencing installed for security.
